Pierre Gasly buys shares in the Tech3 MotoGP team

A few months after being taken over by IKON Capital and Gunther Steiner, Tech3 announced the arrival of a new round of investors - including the Alpine Formula 1 racer

Pierre Gasly’s Trail Slam investment fund has purchased shares in the Tech3 MotoGP team. His buy into the squad follows the acquisition of the team by an investment group led by former Haas F1 team principal Gunther Steiner last year.

In September 2025, a group of investors led by Steiner and IKON Capital took control of the Tech3 team. This change of ownership led to the departure of Herve Poncharal, with Steiner now at the helm - even though the team’s operations remain the same in Bormes-les Mimosas, France.

The team has now announced the arrival of a range of additional investors, mainly BoltVentures and Main Street Advisors. The former is led by David Blitzer, the first individual to hold stakes in teams competing across all five major American sports leagues: NBA, NHL, NFL, MLB, and MLS. The latter is a fund run by Paul Wachter, who manages $8.7 billion in assets, particularly in the worlds of sport and entertainment.

Among the other investors is the Trail Slam fund, of which Gasly is a co-founder. The Alpine F1 driver has therefore positioned himself ahead of Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton, who have also explored the possibility of becoming shareholders in MotoGP teams in recent months.

This is not Gasly’s first investment in the sports world, as he is also a shareholder in the French football club FC Versailles.

The other investors announced on Friday include ALK Capital, Barry English (Penman Holdings), Tom Stafford, Charles de Carvalho, and Richard Cook (Dolphin Capital). The distribution of shares among the various shareholders has not been disclosed.

“It’s a very exciting time to be entering MotoGP, and it was important to IKON Capital and me to bring together a group of like-minded investors who share a long-term vision for the Tech3 team,” said Steiner, CEO of Red Bull KTM Tech3. “We are joined by a strong group that understands motorsport, brings genuine value-added capabilities, and shares our core values.

“Just as importantly, we are committed to preserving Tech3’s heritage while taking a measured, strategic approach to growth. This is about building on what already works, and I’m looking forward to working together to shape the team’s future.”

Carlos Ezpeleta, chief sporting officer at MotoGP, was equally enthusiastic about the new investment in the KTM squad, suggesting that it was a “strong endorsement for MotoGP”.

“We are excited to welcome the group to the paddock and look forward to working in partnership to bring the championship to new audiences around the world,” he concluded.”
