Rossi admits pain from motocross crash still "severe"

The Yamaha rider was taken to hospital in Rimini last Thursday after a crash while training at the Cross Club Cavallara, where he suffered mild chest and abdominal trauma in the fall.

Rossi was discharged on Friday evening to continue his recovery at home, with the team not confirming whether he would definitely be taking part in this weekend's Italian Grand Prix at Mugello.

The 38-year-old will undergo medical checks at the circuit on Thursday, and hopes to take part in Friday's first practice session if he is given the all-clear.

"Unfortunately I crashed while I was training on a motocross bike," said Rossi in a team preview. "The pain in the abdomen and in the chest is still severe.

"Fortunately, my condition is improving day-by-day and this allows me to think a bit more positively about the Mugello weekend. My desire to be at the start of the Italian GP is so strong and I'm working on recovering as soon as possible.

"It will not be easy but I still have a few days to continue the treatment. On Thursday I will have to do the medical check-up to get the OK to go on the track.

"If all is well, I will ride my YZR-M1 on Friday to really understand my condition. I will do my best to be on track Sunday, for sure."

Rossi currently lies third in the riders' standings after crashing out of the previous race at Le Mans while battling teammate Maverick Vinales for victory, and is 23 points adrift of the Spaniard.
