Tonight’s 2015 MotoGP season opener at Qatar is already being hailed as one of the best races in the modern era. With his scintillating victory under the floodlights at the Losail International Circuit, Valentino Rossi chalked up his 109th career win.

The Italian’s racecraft once again sees him on the top step of the podium with an average start from 8th position followed up by vintage performance.

He took just a few laps to bridge the gap to teammate Lorenzo and the factory Ducatis of Andrea Dovizioso and Andrea Iannone at the front before setting his sights on victory.

Speaking after the race Rossi said: “In the last three seasons I always rode solid races and arrived on the podium but to come back with a victory is another thing. I am so happy because we suffered a lot during the practices and also the tests, but we worked very well for the 22 laps race and I was very strong."

Putting the race win down as one of his standout victories, Rossi also paid tribute to his team saying, “First of all you have to be lucky, but especially the work that we do with the team during the weekend makes the difference for my pace in the race.

"It was definitely one of the best races of my career, considering where we were yesterday. I really have to thank all my team, my engineers and all at Yamaha because I think today we did something amazing.”
