Turner fnishes fifth in Vancouver.

Vancouver, BC: Al Turner in the Blue Streak Racing Intrepid took to the streets of Vancouver for the CASCAR 35 lap main event on Saturday and crossed the finish line in fifth. Mother Nature co-operated again this year for CASCAR's second trip to the Concord Pacific Place 12-turn street circuit with sunny skies and warm temperatures, as veteran road racer Robin Buck took the checkered flag.

Turner entered this event as the defending champion, after winning the inaugural appearance by CASCAR in 2001. While Turner was happy with the Blue Streak Intrepid and even commented that it was faster than last year's car on the long straightaway, he could muster only the eleventh quickest time over the two qualifying sessions. Edmonton's Kevin Dowler would break the previous track record in qualifying that was set by Turner in the 2001 event, with a 1:23.547 to start on the front row with his teammate Wade Lee for Saturday's race.

Dowler would be the class of the field as he led for the first 29 laps until second place runner Jeff Lapcevich got a little aggressive taking both himself and Dowler out of contention. Turner ran just outside the top ten for the first half of the race but by lap 30 of the 35 lap event he was up to seventh. When the checkered flag fell five laps later Turner would bring the Blue Streak Racing Intrepid across the line fifth. Turner commented after the race "I was really comfortable in the car all weekend and it felt like I had more speed on the long straights but I just couldn't get the times that the front guys were posting. But a fifth here and a third in Calgary keeps us up near the top in points so that will help us with four points races left," he added.

Finish: 1. Robin Buck 2. Jim Lapcevich 3. Peter Gibbons 4. Ron Beauchamp Jr. 5. Al Turner

The Western swing of the CASCAR tour was considered a success for the Blue Streak Racing Team. A fourth place finish in the 100-lap qualifier and a third in the Mopar 300 in Calgary added to the fifth in Vancouver shows Turner unofficially in sixth in the Super Series National Point Standings.

The teams will enjoy a much needed weekend off then it is on to Quebec and Autodrome Montmagny for event #10 on Sunday August 11th.
