A brand new series sponsor – Pinty’s Delicious Foods, Inc. – came on board this season with a new three-year deal to a return to Toronto as part of the Honda Indy Toronto. This is the first time the Canadian series competes at the 1.755-mile road course since 2011.

Alex Tagliani, in the No. 18 Chevrolet, set the fastest time during this morning’s free practice session with a time of 1m17.933, beating series’ newcomer Daniel Morad in the No. 06 Dodge and two-time race winner so far this season, Andrew Ranger in the No. 27 Dodge.

The field of 26 cars was split into two groups for the late afternoon qualifying session.

Gary Klutt led the first group early with a time of 1m20.012. But DJ Kennington managed to beat his time, so the order was Kennington, Gary Klutt, Peter Klutt, Cayden Lapcevich and Matthew Scannell.

The second group went out and two-time series’ champion, Andrew Ranger quickly set a blazing pace. Alex Tagliani was second ahead of Kevin Lacroix, Alex Labbé and Daniel Morad, a regular Porsche Cup competitor.

However, Labbé hit the wall hard in turn 2, damaging the No. 32 Ford. Writing these lines, it was not possible to say if the car would be repaired in time for tomorrow’s race.

After a red flag period, the session was restarted and at the end, Ranger clinched the pole ahead of Alex Tagliani and Daniel Morad.

“The car runs great!” said Ranger. “It handles very well over the bumps. So for tomorrow, the plan is to keep running with the leaders and be in a good position to attack near the end of the race.”

Starting grid:

Row 1

Andrew Ranger (1m17.912) - Alex Tagliani (1m17.949)

Row 2
