UNLIKELY EQUIPMENT KEY AS KENNINGTON WINS IN CANADA

BARRIE, Ontario, Canada (Sept. 8, 2007) -- In this era of high-tech racing development it is nice to know that there is still room for old school fixes on the fly along pit road.

D.J. Kennington hooked a bungee cord from his accelerator pedal to his steering wheel in the midst of the ATTO 300 NASCAR Canadian Tire Series race Barrie Speedway and roared off to victory.

Under those conditions, it was a good thing Kennington could count on his Goodyear tires for consistent performance. Goodyear is the exclusive tire provider for the NCTS and has been for many seasons. The bias-ply tires the Canadian Tire Series uses this season come from the same line of Goodyear Eagles used by the NASCAR Grand National Division teams.

Kennington led 60 of the final 61 laps in the 300-lap race around Barrie's 1/3-mile oval. During the middle portion of the race, the throttle return spring failed on his car and he pitted. His crew handed him a bungee cord and Kennington hooked it from the gas pedal to the steering wheel to provide resistance and then finished the race in that manner. His victory margin was quite sizable for a Canadian Tire Series event, 1.453 seconds.

It was a long weekend for Kennington. He also raced in the NASCAR Busch Series race at Richmond International Raceway the night before.

Dave Whitlock, who raced without the aid of a bungee cord, finished second. He was followed by Don Thomson Jr., Peter Gibbons and John Gaunt.

Andrew Ranger finished sixth and held on to his healthy lead in the championship standings. Ranger has 1,622 points. Kennington is second with 1,535.

Kerry Micks won the Bud Pole Award with a lap averaging 85.215 mph. Kennington won the race with an average speed of 57.644 mph.
