"Good handling and good brakes are important at Barrie"

MT. ALBERT, ONTARIO (September 5, 2008) -- Presently fifth in the standings, Kerry Micks is planning on some solid finishes in the upcoming final three races in the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series, starting with this weekend's Pizza Pizza 300 at Barrie Speedway.

Driving the Beyond Digital Imaging Ford Fusion, Micks, of Mount Albert, Ontario said the Barrie third-mile oval is a demanding course, but one he knows well. He also mentioned what it takes to win at Barrie.

"Barrie is a tight oval," he explained. "The most important things to a successful run at Barrie are having a good-handling race car and good brakes."

For the first Barrie race in June of 2008, Micks started sixth and placed 10th.

Since then, he has three podium finishes, placing third on the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal and at Autodrome St. Eustache in Quebec, and winning the Mosport oval event. In the first of two races at Barrie in 2007, Micks started 17th and placed fourth. In the second event, he started on the pole, led for the first 65 laps, but had some issues later in the race and placed out of contention. He said he would like to be up front when the green flag drops for Saturday night's race.

"It would be nice to start on the pole with the BDI Ford this time."

Micks also noted he has raced at Barrie many times over a 20 year span, including his CASCAR Super Series Championship year of 1993.

The Pizza Pizza 300 is the 11th race in the 13-event NASCAR Canadian Tire Series for 2008. The 300-lap race is scheduled to start at 8:00 p.m.
