RANGER LOSES CLOSE BATTLE FOR WIN BUT TAKES SECOND IN EDMONTON

EDMONTON, AB: Saturday's running of the Edmonton 100 saw Andrew Ranger driver of the #27 Wal- Mart/Tide Ford Fusion lead thirty one and three quarter laps of the thirty-two lap event. In the next to last turn, Ranger's car slipped up the track allowing the #84 of J.R. Fitzpatrick to take advantage and make the pass for the win.

Ranger and Fitzpatrick traded the top spot on several occasions on Friday during practice and qualifying, but the #27 driver posted a quick lap of 81.311 just .076 quicker than Fitzpatrick, giving him his second Bud Pole Award of the season.

In Saturday's 100 km race, Ranger jumped out to an early five second lead in the Jacombs prepared Fusion , but several caution periods eliminated that advantage. "My car was really good today and I am proud to be second for Wal- Mart and Tide," stated Ranger after the race. "I had a problem with my transmission late in the race and when I down shiffted to second the car would slip. I knew J.R. was watching for this and he made the pass clean."

"It was a great day today for Jacombs Racing," stated team owner Dave Jacombs. "Andrew came close to his second win this year, but his second place fniish keeps him solidly in the points lead and our other car the #88 driven by Robin Buck took third place to round out the podium. You can't ask for much more than that."

After two solid two ten finishes on the western swing Ranger has increased his lead in the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series point standings with a 35 point advantage over second place Fitzpatrick as they head to the next event, the Montreal Busch race weekend. This is another course Ranger knows well after having raced on Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in a Champ Car.
