TAGLIANI CAPTURES CANADIAN AIRPORT ROAD RACE
EDMONTON, Alberta, Canada (July 28, 2008) -- It turns out that former open wheel car pilot Alex Tagliani can drive stock cars, too.
Tagliani won the Edmonton Canadian Tire Series 100 on the temporary road course at the Edmonton City Centre Airport. The course measured 1.973 miles and included 14 turns.
Goodyear is the exclusive tire provider for the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series. The tiremaker has been part of the series for many years. The bias-ply tires supplied for the Canada's most popular stock car series have proven to be popular with the Canadian teams and are the same as those supplied for the NASCAR Camping World Series East and West divisions.
Tagliani beat points leader Scott Steckly to the finish by 1.404 seconds. Andrew Ranger, another former open-wheel driver, finished third and was followed by J.R. Fitzpatrick and D.J. Kennington.
Ranger set the fastest time in qualifying, averaging 87.909 mph. Tagliani averaged 63.774 mph over the race distance. There were 22 starters in the event.
Steckly leads the championship chase with 1,070 points and Don Thomson Jr. is second with 939.
