BEAUCHAMP WINS CASCAR SUPER SERIES RACE AT AUTODROME
MONTREAL, Quebec, Canada (Sept. 10, 2006) -- Ron Beauchamp Jr. started fourth, but took the lead after 64 laps and went on to win the St. Eustache 200 CASCAR Super Series race at the Autodrome St. Eustache.
Goodyear is the exclusive tire provider for CASCAR racing and sponsors the Goodyear Belts and Hoses Fastest Lap Award. Pole sitter Kerry Micks turned the fastest race lap. Micks' fastest race lap was 17.627 seconds (81.69 mph). Micks set a Super Series record for the track with a qualification lap of 17.504 seconds (82.26 mph).
It was the fifth Super Series victory of Beauchamp's career and it came on a night when he used strategy to overcome a record-setting pole sitter. Beauchamp went the 200-lap distance around the 4/10-mile oval without a pit stop.
The drivers had several long runs during the event but had to run the final two laps after a caution period. Beauchamp narrowly held off runner-up D.J. Kennington by a little less than a quarter of a second. Mark Dilley finished third, followed by J.R. Fitzpatrick and Peter Gibbons.
Beauchamp averaged 51.520 mph for the distance.
