The idea is nothing new as organizers of the Grand Prix de Trois-Rivières already relied on grid kids for the first time in 2010. The idea was repeated last summer as young kart racers worked as grid kids at the Montreal Formula E race on the streets of Montréal.
For Dominic Fugère, director of GP3R, the idea makes sense.
“We wanted the grid girls to have more responsibilities during the event,” said Fugère.
“Formula One Management’s decision to drop the grid girls in F1 gave us the motivation to do the same. From now on, the grid girls will work in the corporate suites for the three days of the road racing weekend. We all think this will represents a far better experience for them.”
In August, the grid kids at GP3R will be young and upcoming kart racers who will have the chance to brush shoulders with the competitors of the NASCAR Pinty’s Series such as Alex Tagliani, Cayden Lapcevich, Kevin Lacroix and others.
These promising young racers will have the chance to chat with their heroes and maybe get a few tricks from them to put to good use then they’ll be back in their karts.
