Unfortunately, in today’s market for race track throughout North America, the news is often about a historic track slowing down or even closing and that makes this news that much more sweeter for short track race fans.

After over a year of preparations and planning, Jukasa Motor Speedway is ready for its grand opening this weekend with the APC Late Model Series ready to help break in the newly remodeled facility formerly known as Cayuga Speedway.

General Manager Alex Nagy has been working for over a year getting the track located near Nelles Corner, Ontario, ready for business.

“Things are going well and we’re very busy getting ready for this weekend,” said Alex Nagy who came on board as general manager of the facility last fall. “We’ve been focusing on the big items and now we’re trying to finalize and get all of the detailed items finished for our competitors and fans.”

The work has been going on nonstop since last summer and continues at Jukasa Motor Speedway. The track, formerly known as Cayuga Speedway, was originally built in 1966 and has gone extensive renovations and improvements courtesy of new owners Kenny Hill and Jerry Montour who purchased the track in 2014.

Among the big changes competitors and fans will notice are the new LED lights and completey reconfigured racing surface.

The track now features banking in the turns of up to 8.5 degrees with the previously flat straightaways now showing 3.5 degrees of banking and the racing surface is now 60 feet wide.

Along with the new Musco LED lighting the facility also features nearly 600 campsites for campers.

The APC Series will run a different format for the first time in its three-year existence, running twin 75-lap main events on Sunday with practice and qualifying slated for Saturday.

Several weeks ago the track and NASCAR also announced the 2017 NASCAR Pinty’s Series season finale will now be held at the track on Saturday, September 23rd.

While Nagy is excited about the events coming up to help celebrate the reopening of the track, he’s quick to point out it has been a team effort.

“I’m just the guy steering the ship,” Nagy said. “Thanks to the enormous support from Ken and Jerry we’re able to make this happen this weekend for some of the best late model racers throughout Canada and the United States. We look forward to having a great weekend.”

As previously announced, former NASCAR Cup driver and veteran short track racer Ken Schrader will highlight what is expected to be a record field of entries for the APC Series. Also slated to compete at several NASCAR Pinty’s Series regulars including current points leader Alex Labbe.
