In an era when it seems every year race fans read about another short track in North America shutting down, it makes the news from southern Ontario that much sweeter for races fans from Canada and the United States.

The opening weekend was a success according to responses on social media from fans and competitors alike and that was good news for track General Manager, Alex Nagy.

“Last weekend was a great success for us and everything we had hoped for when we began preparations for our opening weekend,” said Nagy. “We were pleasantly surprised by the excitement and support shown to us by the fans.”

Jason Hathaway swept both APC Late Model feature events on Sunday and while there was only one winner in the two 75-lap races, Nagy said he was pleased with the type of racing that was featured during the first race on the newly reconfigured surface at the one-half mile track.

“The racing was really good and we’re very happy about that,” said Nagy. “Sometimes when you put a new surface down you’ll have a one-groove race track at first and drivers were able to race in two grooves throughout the weekend and other racers have told us a third groove should eventually come in and that is what we hoped to achieve from our first plans to reconfigure the track.”

Nagy also said the first weekend was a good learning experience for him and his staff.

“We learned a lot through the entire weekend based on feedback from competitors and fans and look forward to being ready for our next event in a couple of weeks,” Nagy said. “We look forward to hosting the NASCAR Pinty’s Series and their season finale on Sept. 23.
