Toronto, Ont. (July 12, 2003) - Jeff Lapcevich lost the lead temporarily but regained it back with five laps to go to capture the Molson Indy CASCAR series race at Exhibition Stadium in Toronto, Ontario on Saturday afternoon.

Ford Taurus driver and Edmonton native Kevin Dowler, last year's winner, crossed the line in second place 0.750 of a second back.

Dowler, who leads this season's points standings, passed Lapcevich on lap 29 of the 36-lap race, but Lapcevich regained the lead on lap 32 and held for the win. Lapcevich, who resides in Caistor Centre, Ontario, led for 31 laps of the race.

"To win here is a real big win and the biggest win of my career so far," said Lapcevich. "I had my whole fiancee's family here in the crowd from Bradford, Pennsylvania."

It was his fiancee Sheri's birthday today, so, she has received one present already with the win.

"Every time we come to Toronto we learn more things," said Dowler. "And every time we come back, we get a little bit better."

Trevor Seibert of Williams Lake, British Columbia grabbed the final spot on the podium, 2.455 seconds off the pace.

Donald Theetge of Boischatel, Quebec and Scott Steckly of Milverton, Ontario rounded out the top five finishing 4.033 and 4.721 seconds back of the leader respectively.

Of note, Kerry Micks, who is second in the driver's championship, worked his way up from 24th on the starting grid to finish sixth overall.

Two-time defending CASCAR champion Don Thomson Jr. slammed into the tire barrier in Turn 5 late in the race along with Peter Gibbons and both had to retire from the race.
