Miller capitalizes on CASCAR racing opportunity with a second place debut.
Racesportz Tide Racing Team puts young American to the test at Exhibition CASCAR event.

Ottawa, Ontario - Michigan native, Marc Miller, completed his first ever CASCAR race on Sept. 25 at the Ottodrome Speedway in Ottawa, Canada with a strong second-place result. After signing a testing program deal with RaceSportz Tide Racing for this year, Marc Miller was given the opportunity to race the car for the first time. It was also Miller's first experience on an oval since racing stock cars in Virginia at age 14.

"I was really excited to get this opportunity to race the car," said Miller. "The team was great to work with and provided a very fast racecar. It has been so long since I have raced a stock car on an oval. Up until this race, we had only been testing at road course venues."

Miller started the first 10-lap heat race from the rear of the 11-car field and methodically worked his way up to the third position. Started the feature from the seventh position, Miller found himself again in third after a caution and briefly led before being nudged down to the infield by another driver. After starting back in the back, Miller showed a lot of poise by charging back up to a second-place finish, passing numerous cars on the outside groove.

After an initial test in May, the team invited Miller back to continue a testing program in preparation for a possible 2003 CASCAR SuperSeries campaign. While the team had scheduled yet another test at Mosport Park's famed 2.5 mile road-course, team owner, David Connelly, thought that Miller should get the chance to test and race the car at an oval track as well.

"Marc did a fantastic job," said Connelly. "We came to the track the day before the race and did some testing to acclimate Marc with the car on this type of track. For Marc to come out in his first CASCAR race and get his nose dirty and not worry about getting shoved around is very impressive. He made going from the back to the front look fairly effortless. Some drivers get intimidated, but Marc certainly didn't."

Greg Schwemler, crew chief for the RaceSportz Tide Racing Team, was also happy with the result.

"Marc has been great to work with," said Schwemler. "He fits into the team very well and communicates exactly what he needs in the car which makes setting the car up for him pretty easy."

The 2003 season looks bright for the young American to travel to Canada on a regular basis. Connelly is currently working with possible sponsors for a 2003 campaign for Miller.

"For me, Marc brings a certain level of confidence to the table," said Connelly. "When I am pitching a big sponsor, I know I don't have to worry about Marc and getting him faster. He is polished and I know if we give him the equipment he can come through."

Miller has not been racing full time this year so that racing plans for 2003 can be solidified. Miller has had the help of current sponsors Trackmagic Racing Karts and AIM Sportsystems (EVO 3 Data Acquisition systems) to make the transition to a full-time program easier.

CASCAR (Canadian Association of Stock Car Racing) is the largest professional racing series in Canada with 12 televised events through the Nation.
