LONDON, ON - When the drivers line up for the Peterborough 150 this Saturday evening (May 26) at Peterborough Speedway, it will mark the first time since 1999 that the Castrol Super Series has visited the track that bills itself as 'Canada's fastest 1/3-mile oval'.

The majority of the drivers are looking forward to returning to the type of track where they first cut their racing teeth. Asked if he was happy to be returning to Peterborough, CASCAR veteran Andy Farr - who drives the DeWalt Tools Intrepid - said, "Absolutely! That's my kind of racetrack. I love tracks like that. That's how they should be."

But even if the excitement of old fashioned short track racing is something that Farr and the rest of the Castrol Super Series drivers crave, they all understand that the high-banked Peterborough track can be a very cramped place. Especially when you get 30 CASCAR Late Model racers, all chasing the same checkered flag for 150 laps.

If history holds, then starting positions will be critical for this Saturday night's second round of the Castrol Super Series. Two years ago, Don Thomson's Home Hardware Chevy won from the outside of the front row. And in 1998, Barrie, ON racer John Gaunt started from the same position and ended a four-year winless streak when he was the beneficiary of a last lap tangle involving Neil Fair - who had dominated the race until lap 149 - and a lapped car. Fair held on for second, but the incident was proof positive that at Peterborough Speedway, there is no time to relax until the race is over.

Entering the Peterborough 150, Kerry Micks - another driver with impressive short track credentials - leads the chase for the Castrol Cup on the strength of his season opening victory at Delaware Speedway on Sunday afternoon. Micks started the season without a primary sponsor, and is doing all he can to turn some heads in his pursuit of wins, and a backer, for his Micks Motorsports team.

Another driver to watch will be two-time and defending Castrol Cup champion Peter Gibbons. The Canadian Tire Chevy driver experienced trouble with his electrical system just prior to the start of Sunday's Mopar Parts 250 and failed to take the green flag. A proud competitor, Gibbons will no doubt be looking to make amends for last weekend's uncharacteristic performance.

Similarly, drivers like Don Thomson, Al Turner, DJ Kennington and Dave Whitlock all left Delaware with less points than they'd hoped for and will be trying to get back on track this Saturday at Peterborough Speedway.

PETERBOROUGH SCHEDULE: Time trials for the Peterborough 150 start Saturday afternoon (May 26) at 5:00 p.m., while the CASCAR final Qualifier will start at 6:40. Following the traditional driver autograph session (7:30 - 8:15) and the driver introductions (8:30), the drivers will prepare for the green flag, which is scheduled for 9:00 p.m.

TV TIMES: The tape-delayed broadcasts of the Castrol Super Series races will be starting soon. Produced by James Robinson Associates, Ltd., the Mopar Parts 250 (from Delaware Speedway) is scheduled to air on Sportsnet at 7:00 p.m. (in all regions) on Tuesday, July 3. Highlights of races will also be aired on Wednesdays following each race on ESPN2's 'rpm2night'.
