Busy Weekend Leads To Solid Results For Bourque

OTTAWA, ONT. (Tuesday, July 25, 2006) m - Competing in his first road course event in nearly 16 years, Pierre Bourque answered to his country's cheers by soldiering a solid 25th place finish effort in his CASCAR Series debut in a three-car effort for former series champion Dave Whitlock and Whitlock Motorsports.

After spending much of the summer competing in the busy NASCAR Busch East Series (NBES) for Fast Track Racing, Bourque didn't have any "set" goals for his CASCAR debut other than to qualify for the event and finish the race. He accomplished those goals with ease.

In a field with 38 competitors, Bourque driving the No. 29 Driving.Ca Dodge Charger lined up 28th for the Grand Prix of Edmonton, round five for the series this season from the City Centre Airport located in Edmonton, Alberta.

Taking the green flag, Bourque wasted no time trying to make a dash towards the front. Heading into the first corner, Bourque was able to out maneuver several of his competitors gaining several markers.

Holding his position inside the top-20, things looked bright for Bourque in his road racing return, but another competitor ahead of the Ottawa, Ontario based driver spun trapping the No. 29 machine with several cars repassing Bourque.

For the remainder of the race, he clawed his way back through the one hour-15 minute event, fishing 25th just one lap down from the race winner.

"I'm really happy with results from Edmonton," said Canadian's only full time NASCAR driver. "I drove a clean race, learned a lot about the car, the 2006 Dodge Charger and the series. It was an awesome feeling. The car is one piece and I think we're going to be a lot better the next time around. Dave Despain (Wind Tunnel Host on SPEED) has stated that Edmonton is the best temporary circuit in North America, I believe that. Once I was overtaken by the leaders, I was able to stick with them for the last third of the race. I studied them like prey and I gained a lot of valuable information, I'm happy with that."

Driving.Ca adorned the primary sponsorship role last weekend. Driving.Ca is Canada's No. 1 Automotive website.

In addition, Canada.com, Canada's biggest online community, Working.com, one of North America's top career sites, and Dose.Ca, a cool site that caters to hip Canadian urbanites coast-to-coast, all served as secondary sponsors on Bourque's machine last weekend.

All four new sponsors are part of Canwest-Global, Canada's largest media company with interests in television, radio, newspapers and the internet. All four will be backing of Bourque's NASCAR Busch East season, his three CASCAR races, and his forays into ARCA.

He continued, "I want to thank all of my sponsors and the Whitlock Motorsports team for their efforts this weekend, we succeed. We hope to continue to reach out and have an impact to their markets in our remaining races."

Bourque's successful efforts in the CASCAR Series weren't the end of his already busy weekend.

Following the race, he boarded a plane and headed to Nashville, Tennessee where he participated in the open test session Monday for the ARCA RE/MAX Series in preparation for his ARCA Superspeedway debut next month.

12 drivers and teams whipped laps around the 1.333-concrete oval on Tuesday with Bourque turning an unofficial lap of 32.940 seconds or 145.355 mph. Bourque will look to make his second career ARCA start at Nashville turned his fastest lap of the day in the hottest part of the afternoon which impressed many on the team including car owner Andy Hillenburg.

"We're real pleased with the test results," Bourque added. "I'm real happy with the way we improved from the morning session to the afternoon session. I was faster on forty lap older tires which is a good thing. We are going to have a better package for the race when we arrive next month, so we're all looking forward to a positive weekend."

With a race and a test behind him in two days, Bourque must now gather his concentration as the NASCAR Busch East Series season resumes this weekend at Adirondack International Speedway in Lowville, New York. Bourque and the Fast Track Racing (FTR) prepare to rebound from an mediocre (26th) run at New Hampshire International Speedway two weeks ago.

In addition to running three CASCAR Series races with Whitlock Motorsports, Pierre Bourque will also compete in a full NASCAR Busch East Series schedule and a limited ARCA RE/MAX Series schedule for Fast Track Racing and car owner Andy Hillenburg.
