RANGER MAINTAINS POINTS LEAD BUT LOSES MOTOR
RANGER HOLDS FORTY ONE POINT ADVANTAGE GOING INTO FINAL EVENT

ANTIGONISH, NS: Saturday's running of the Atlantic Dodge Dealers 300, event number eleven on the twelve race tour, had to be cancelled and re-scheduled for Sunday due to heavy rain and wind in Atlantic Canada. When racing resumed on Sunday, Ranger driving the No. 27 Wal-Mart/Tide Ford Fusion prepared by Jacombs Racing experienced their first failure of the year when the motor expired relegating them to a thirteenth place finishing position.

Ranger continued to improve his times during Saturday's two hour practice session as he got more comfortable with the high banked 3/8th mile oval track. When weather conditions forced the cancellation of qualifying and the race event later in the day on Saturday the team made preparations to return on Sunday. Time trials would see the Jacombs Racing prepared Ford Fusion team qualify eleventh quickest.

Sunday afternoon before a full house of appreciative race fans, the green flag flew. Ranger quickly settled into the top ten and by lap 100 had skillfully moved into sixth. The caution flag flew at lap 203 after a long green flag run and many of the teams took advantage of the caution to pit for tires and fuel. During a late race pit stop, Ranger would lose a lap but then regain it a few laps later by way of the beneficiary award. On lap 266 while running solidly in sixth and moving up, the motor expired leaving the No. 27 team with their first DNF of the year and a thirteenth place finish.

"We have had great engines all year and you cannot predict a part failure," stated team owner Jacombs after the race. "Andrew was running a terrific race and not overdriving the car, he was just biding his time."

Mark Dilley driver of the No. 9 Dodge sponsored Avenger posted his first victory of the season, followed by J. R. Fitzpatrick and D.J. Kennington. Derek Lynch and Dave Whitlock rounded out the top five.

With Kennington's third place finish, he knocked forty-six points off of Rangers pre-event eighty-seven point lead in the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series standings. Ranger will take a forty-one point advantage into the final event of the season to be held at Kawartha Speedway in Peterborough on Sunday Sept. 23rd where the first ever NASCAR Canadian Tire Series Champion will be crowned.
