Bond released from Hospital; Freak accident leaves CARSTAR Monte Carlo driver in doubt for Flamboro
UXBRIDGE, ONTARIO - CARSTAR Monte Carlo driver Russ Bond was released from the Milton Regional Hospital on Thursday, June 10th. Bond spent four days in the care facility after a freak accident while unloading the CARSTAR Monte Carlo last Sunday night.
"I simply fell off the truck and landed on the weight that is chained to the front of the trailer," Bond said. "The weight is an injection die and it has very pointed edge - that went into my back, breaking three ribs, bruising my lung, and spleen."
Jonak Brothers Racing Mark Jonak, witnessed the accident. "We called the ambulance, but Russ couldn't lay down on the stretcher," Mark Jonak said. When we got to the hospital, he was already in the intensive care unit. He was supposed to be on Raceline Radio that night - we heard he had called in from a portable phone in the emergency room."
Bond was moved to a regular room on Wednesday morning from the intensive care unit, then released on Thursday morning. "It will be a tough couple of weeks - it only hurts when I breathe!" Bond said. "Thanks to everyone that came by and called."
Already Bond is trying to sort out just how the next couple of races in the Ontario Pro Challenge Series will be for the CARSTAR/Dupont/Impact Race Products/Mobil1/Inside Track Motorsports News Monte Carlo. "The car is ready to go for Flamboro, but we'll have to see how I feel. In hockey, I think they call it a 'game time' decision," Bond said.
The next race for the CARSTAR Monte Carlo is Saturday, June 19th at Flamboro Speedway.
