Scott Lindsay Claims Inaugural Sportsman Win

DELAWARE, ON - Scott Lindsay, driving his new FRAM Chevrolet Monte Carlo, opened the new CASCAR Sportsman three-track series with a runaway win on May 5 at Delaware Speedway Park. The St. Mary's, ON racer bested a strong field of cars in the 100 lap event on a record-smashing night at the London area half-mile.

Lindsay, of St. Mary's, ON was among several racers who obliterated the old CASCAR Sportsman qualifying record time at Delaware. His 19.664 second tour sheared a full seven-tenths of a second off of the old standard. That was good enough to earn a spot on the inside of Row 2 during single car qualifying. Steve Robblee's blazing 19.515 second lap will be the new standard chased by Delaware CASCAR Sportsman racers.

Every one of the top 10 qualifiers posted a time better than the 20.3 second spin that entered the night as the record. Drivers credited the new Goodyear spec tires as the reason for the increased speed and better grip in the corners.

However, while Lindsay may not have been fastest in qualifying, he and his 1999 Monte Carlo were second to none in the race.

Lindsay moved into top spot near the quarter-mark of the 100-lap race and never looked back.

"Our car was fantastic," summed up Lindsay. "The longer we ran, the better we got. Once I got out it out front, Robblee was pressing fairly hard, but after about 15 laps, his car seemed to drop off and ours stayed great. It got even better I think."

A caution flag on the 90th lap could have proved frustrating for Lindsay, who owned a 15-car length cushion on Robblee at that point, but he simply went right back to work after the restart.

"I got a good jump on the green flag. We were flying. The car was working great," concluded Scott, who is also leading the CASCAR Sportsman 'Friday night' points race at Delaware.

Lindsay took the checkered flag in the first Delaware round of the new CASCAR Sportsman Series, a unique challenge that will eventually bring together competitors from Delaware, Capital City Speedway (Ottawa) and Autodrome St-Eustache (Montreal) this summer.

Lindsay Motorsports is backed this season by primary sponsor FRAM / Honeywell. Other sponsors include Prestone, Bendix Brakes, Autolite, St. Mary's Ford, Leaf Racewear, GOCO, ArtCal Graphics and Quantum Sports Media. Robblee, of Dorchester, ON held on for second spot, after chasing Lindsay all night. Third place went to London, ON's Ron Sheridan. Bob Morris, another London resident grabbed fourth while Jim Patrick, of Delaware, rounded out the top five.
