Jeff Lapcevich earns the pole for Saturday afternoon's Canadian Tire 100
VANCOUVER, BC - Toronto Molson Indy CASCAR race winner Jeff Lapcevich set the fastest time during the second and final qualifying session for the Canadian Tire 100, which starts Saturday afternoon at 3:45 p.m. at the 12-turn, Concord Pacific Place circuit, in downtown Vancouver.
The 15-minute second session took place on Saturday morning under cooler conditions, which were more conducive to setting quicker lap times. Lapcevich, who drives out of the Fastline Motorsports Chevy stable, lapped the temporary street circuit in a time of 1:23.780, which was well under Al Turner's best time in Friday afternoon's first timed session.
Based on the combined times of the two qualifying outings, Lapcevich will start on the pole position in an effort to win his second CASCAR Indy event in the past month. Turner's Friday time (1:24.511) held up as the second-fastest lap of the two sessions, which means the Blue Streak MOPAR driver will line up on the outside of the front row. The Barrie, ON racer won the inaugural Vancouver Indy CASCAR race in 2001.
Two-time CASCAR National Champion Peter Gibbons will start third in his Canadian Tire Chevy Monte Carlo. Kerry Micks and Don Thomson Jr. will start fourth and fifth, respectively. Thomson holds a three-point lead over Micks atop the point standings in this year's title hunt.
A total of 28 CASCAR Super Series drivers will take the green flag for the Canadian Tire 100, which is the seventh of 12 races on the 2003 Super Series calendar.
