Atlanta Motor Speedway Equals High Speed And Excitement

ATLANTA, Ga. March 3, 2002 --- The NASCAR Winston Cup Series returns to the east coast with the upcoming "Georgia 500" at Atlanta Motor Speedway on Sunday, March 10, 2002. Dale Jarrett and the #88 UPS Racing team scored a seventh-place finish last weekend at Las Vegas Motor Speedway giving the team its first top-10 finish of the season and a boost in the points standings. Jarrett looks to take another leap in the points this weekend with the "MBNA America 500" at Atlanta Motor Speedway. Jarrett scored a pair of top-10 finishes at Atlanta during the track's 2001 events. FOX will broadcast the event live this Sunday with action beginning at 1 p.m. EST.

Jarrett Looks Forward To Fast Atlanta Motor Speedway
"Atlanta is a fast and fun track and is really the type of track that has everything that makes race car drivers do what they do. It's fast and there's good room for passing. When we raced in Atlanta a year ago we were one of about five teams that had a shot at the win right up until the last lap. That's how racing at Atlanta is - exciting and fun. We haven't won at Atlanta since before the track was reconfigured so we're about due for another win. We always run well there and look forward to qualifying on Friday."

Seventh-Place Finish In Las Vegas Boost Team UPS In Points
The #88 UPS Racing Team finished seventh at Las Vegas Motor Speedway giving the team a significant boost in the points from 29th to 16th. Although the team struggled throughout the majority of the 267-lap event, Jarrett says it's days like Sunday that help a team win championships.

"When you take a day like we had Sunday where we started way back in the field and really didn't have a car capable of finishing in the top 10 but end up finishing seventh, then that's what helps in the big picture. That type of consistency is what wins championships. Sure, we'd like to win every race but if we can't then we know we have to finish in the top five or top 10. I think we've stepped our program up to the point that we realize we can be a factor at all the tracks but we have to be consistent. You have to have some luck on your side, but being consistent is what winning a championship is about."
