Following a successful practice on Friday morning at Atlanta Motor Speedway, the No. 4 Kodak MAX Film Monte Carlo, driven by Mike Skinner, locked in a starting spot of 21st at the conclusion of qualifying.
Skinner, accompanied by his wife Angela, flew to Nashville Friday evening to appear on the Grand Ole Opry. He was presented a Fender guitar by Country recording artist Mark McGuinn. He then performed "That's A Plan", from McGuinn's current CD, with the North Carolina-native. McGuinn was present in Atlanta on Saturday and Sunday as a guest of Morgan-McClure Motorsports.
Scott Eggleston, crew chief, had the Morgan-McClure Motorsports pit crew make changes to the No. 4 Monte Carlo during the event on Sunday. Skinner reported a car that was too tight in the corners and ill to the track conditions, but managed to bring the familiar yellow car across the finish line in 27th.
Mark Cass, a crewmember from the No. 66, filled in for Morgan-McClure Motorsports' raceday Jackman Tony Cardamone. Cardamone had to sit out the race weekend in Abingdon, Va. due to a cracked bone in his shin.
Scott Eggleston, crew chief No. 4 Kodak MAX Film Monte Carlo, quotes: "We had a good day in Atlanta on Friday. Even leaving the track on Saturday, the team felt confident about raceday. We really thought we were in good shape.
"After the first few laps of the race, we just chased the set-up all day. Then we got out of sync on pit stops and that did not help us out any. The track changed on Saturday. Hoosier rubber was laid down on it along with the rain and all of the conditions were different than they had been on Friday.
"NASCAR tries to do us competitors a favor by having Winston Cup Happy Hour before race events on Saturday. Not that I am opposed to the concept, but it can make it tough to find the right attitude of a track after a race has been run on it. We will test at our home track, Bristol, on Tuesday and Wednesday. Then we go to the good old traditional track in Darlington, South Carolina for the weekend."
