Biffle scores top five: "We finally had a chance to race with those guys"

One top-five finish isn’t going to salvage a difficult season, but for Greg Biffle, his fifth-place finish in Sunday’s Sprint Cup Series race at New Hampshire is an important step in the right direction.

“I certainly pleased with the fifth top-five but we have a little more work to do to get our car faster,” said Biffle, who has one top-five and three top-10 finishes in 19 races this season. “We will keep digging, we have some work to do on it.

“We have a lot of momentum right now. Everybody did a great job. We just worked hard at it. We got a lap down on that long (green-flag) run in the middle of the race but we were able to come back.”

With Biffle a lap down, a caution with 82 to laps to go allowed crew chief Brian Pattie to gamble by taking the “wave around” and getting back on the lead lap.

The gamble paid off when a caution was again displayed on Lap 264. Biffle pitted for four tires, fuel and an air pressure adjustment and was back in the hunt for a good finish.

The rash of cautions and subsequent restarts offered Biffle a chance to race with some of this season’s top performing teams – which was a welcomed change of scenery.

“It was a great run with (Kyle Busch) there toward the end. We finally had a chance to race with those guys a little bit,” he said. “We are still working hard on these cars to get them faster.

“There was a lot of attrition there at the end that got us in the top-five, but once we got up there we were pretty fair racing with (Busch, Kevin Harvick and Joey Logano).”

All of Biffle’s Top 10 finishes this season have come in the last three races and he remains 22nd in the series points standings.
