BRISTOL, Tenn. (Aug. 26, 2000) – NASCAR Busch Series regular David Green will drive the No. 94 McDonald's McFlurry Taurus in tonight's goracing.com 500 at Bristol Motor Speedway. Green will substitute for owner/driver Bill Elliott, who is recovering from a broken kneecap he suffered in an accident at his home in Blairsville, Ga. Tuesday (Aug. 22) afternoon.

"I'm making progress every day, but I think that it would be best for this team and for our long-term objectives to sit out tonight," said Elliott. "It's a very difficult decision to make, but I'm confident that David Green will do a great job for us."

Thursday afternoon, Elliott was discharged from HEALTHSOUTH Medical Center in Birmingham where he had surgery Tuesday evening. During the 90-minute surgery, Dr. James Andrews inserted three steel pins and a steel wire to repair and secure the fractured patella (kneecap).

Notes

* The last time Elliott missed Winston Cup race was the MBNA Gold 400 in Dover, Del. on Sept. 20, 1998. He missed that race to attend his father's funeral. * The last time injury sidelined Elliott was in the Goody's 500 at Bristol in Aug. 1996. He missed seven races due to a broken left thighbone (femur) he suffered in a racing accident at Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway on April 29th of that year.

* Green practiced and qualified the No. 94 car yesterday, placing 26th on the starting lineup for tonight's 250-mile, 500-lap event. He drove the No. 34 AFG Glass car to a 10th-place finish after starting 38th in last night's NASCAR Busch Series Food City 250 at Bristol. * This is Green's first Winston Cup start of 2000. His last start was the NAPA 500 at Atlanta Motor Speedway, Nov. 21, 1999. He started 41st and finished 21st. He has accumulated $1,554,804 career earnings in 73 Winston Cup starts. * Green ran both Winston Cup races at Bristol Motor Speedway in 1999. He drove the No. 41 Kodiak Chevrolet to a 33rd-place finish in the Food City 500 on April 11, and finished 25th in the Goody's Headache Powder 500 on Aug. 28
