KEN SCHRADER

Short-Track Specialist To Drive DLP®HDTV Toyota at Bristol

CORNELIUS, N.C. (Aug. 20, 2008) -- NASCAR veteran Ken Schrader will attempt to qualify the No. 96 DLP®HDTV Toyota Camry for this weekend's Sharpie 500 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway (BMS).

Schrader, who has driven just about anything with four wheels and a seat, has 722 career Sprint Cup Series starts, with four wins, 23 poles and 184 top-10 finishes.

Of those 184 top-10s, 71 of them (nearly 40 percent) have come on tracks that are one mile or less in length.

Bristol is a .533-mile concrete, high banked oval, and Schrader has plenty of experience at the facility with 56 NASCAR starts, including 46 in the Sprint Cup Series. He has 11 top-10 finishes at BMS, including a second-place effort in April 1994.

Schrader has six NASCAR Nationwide Series starts at BMS, with two top-10 finishes. In addition, he has four NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series starts at the half-mile bullring and has never finished worse than 18th.

While the Sharpie 500 is Schrader's main focus for the week, it's certainly not the only racing he will be doing. A normal week for Schrader consists of racing nearly every night, and this week is no different.

He won a dirt Late Model race Tuesday night at Macon (Ill.) Speedway and will compete in Wednesday's NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race at BMS.

After participating in a Late Model race at Paducah (Ky.) International Raceway on Thursday, he'll head back to Bristol for Sprint Cup practice and qualifying on Friday.

Busy? Sure, but it's nothing out of the ordinary for Schrader.

KEN SCHRADER, driver of the No. 96 DLP HDTV Toyota Camry:

What are your thoughts heading into the Sharpie 500 at Bristol Motor Speedway?

"It's exciting. I'm looking forward to running for DLP and Hall of Fame Racing. It's always fun to run with a team you've never run with before. I like the crew chief over there (Steve Boyer). I'm looking forward to working with him. I'm just ready to get racing at Bristol. We've had some success there, so we're looking forward to the weekend."

Is it hard to race with a team that you've never worked with before?

"It's challenging and it puts you behind the eight-ball a little bit. Sprint Cup racing is challenging enough as it is, let alone doing a one-off with a team. But it can be fun, and I think we'll have a good weekend."

You've always run pretty well at Bristol. Why is that?

"I don't think there is any specific reason. I just think we've always been able to do fairly well there. It's a long night of racing and you just need to get into a rhythm and stay out of trouble and try to make it to the end. We usually are able to find a rhythm and it's just a matter of staying out of trouble."

Are you doing any other racing this week, besides the Sharpie 500?

"We ran a dirt Late Model in Macon, Ill., Tuesday night and won. I'm at the (Craftsman) Truck Series race on Wednesday in Bristol and then running a race at Paducah, Ky., on Thursday night. We'll get back, rest up and be ready to go Friday and Saturday at Bristol. It's just another normal week of racing."
