RIGGS HOPES TO IGNITE SOLID FINISHES WITH SPARK OF MOMENTUM

BRISTOL, Tenn. (Aug. 23, 2005)-- If a career high Nextel Cup finish is enough to spark some team momentum, then Scott Riggs is expecting another strong run in Saturday night's Sharpie 500 at Bristol Motor Speedway.

Coming off a runner-up result in Michigan, Riggs is keeping his fingers crossed that the finish can ignite some deserving results following a summer-slump that has haunted the Valvoline race team.

"Maybe that second-place can get us going on a streak of good finishes," said Riggs. "We've had some good cars the past few weeks but haven't been able to get to the checkered flag. I'm hoping this can direct us in the right direction."

"A race like in Michigan is good for team morale," Riggs continued. "We know what we're capable of and we finally got a chance to prove it. Not only did Rodney (Childers- crew chief) make awesome calls in the pits and get us a runner-up finish in Michigan, we had a car that could contend for the win. We led some laps early and the Valvoline Chevrolet was pretty competitive the entire race."

Riggs' career-high outcome in Michigan was his fourth top-ten finish of the season, but the first since a 10th place at Bristol Motor Speedway in March. Needless to say, he's not disappointed to see the half-mile banked track next on the Nextel Cup schedule.

"Bristol is one of every driver's favorite places to compete," explained Riggs. "It's a fast, fun, short-track. But with that comes a lot of beating and banging and we've got to be prepared for it. The best way to stay in the race is to start up front and remain there, so that's what we're focusing on. Going back somewhere that we've had success earlier this year is encouraging.

"These next few races could be good for us. We've had solid runs at Bristol, California, Richmond--we could get on a roll here. It's all about momentum and we've got some right now."

The Sharpie 500 will be televised on TNT, beginning at 7 p.m. EDT.
