RIGGS LOOKING TO EXPAND ON SUCCESSFUL SOPHMORE SEASON

BRISTOL, Tenn. (March 29, 2005)-- With four races completed inthe 2005 Nextel Cup schedule,it is evident that Scott Riggs' sophomore season is not resemblinghis rookie year. The Valvoline driver has already earned as many top-10 finishes (two)as he did in the entire 2004 season.

Riggs willbe looking to surpass that mark in Sunday's Food City 500 at Bristol Motor Speedway.

"This year has started off great for the Valvoline team and I just hope it continues in the right direction," explained Riggs. "Bristol is one of every driver's favorite places to compete. It's a fast, fun, short-track. But with that comes a lot of beating and banging and we've got to be prepared for it. The best way to stay in the race is to start up front and remain there, so that's what we're focusing on."

Last season Riggs' Bristol record included a 28th place start and 34th place finish in the spring event and a 39th place start and 17th place finish in the summer race.

"We have to get a good starting spot this weekend," contended Riggs. "Last spring we were off on the setup somewhere and didn't have a strong qualifying run. That put us in a position to get ourselves into trouble and that's what happened -- we got wrecked and it sent us home early."

In preparation for Sunday's event, the Valvoline team visited the .533-mile track last week for a one-day test session.

"We worked on a lot of things throughout the day to try and find some speed in the Valvoline Chevrolet," explained Riggs. "We made a long run at the end of the session and were pretty happy with the consistency of our lap times."

"If we can stay out of trouble this weekend and perform like we have been lately, we should be able to finish our day strong," continued Riggs. "We just have to have some things go our way and make it to the end. So far this year everything has been opposite of the way things went last year. Hopefully that trend will continue and we'll find ourselves with a strong finish at Bristol."
