Notes: All three NASCAR series will compete on the same tire codes this week at Charlotte . . . Nextel Cup and Busch Series teams have already run on this specific combination of left- and right-side tires earlier this month at California, while Cup and Truck Series teams also ran these codes last week at Charlotte . . . in addition to California and Charlotte, other major NASCAR tracks at which this combination will be used in 2004 are Chicagoland, Dover, Michigan, Kansas, Kentucky and Michigan . . . as on all NASCAR ovals greater than one mile in length, teams are required to run inner liners in all four tire positions at Charlotte . . . the air pressure in the inner liners must be 12-25 psi greater than that of the outer tire.
Goodyear Quote -- Mark Keto, Lead Engineer, Stock Car Racing: "The tire set-up we are bringing to Charlotte has been in development for two years -- being tested first in August of 2002 with Kurt Busch, Ricky Craven and Ryan Newman; then again last April with Dale Jarrett and Jimmie Johnson. Basically, these tires are slightly softer on the right-side and significantly softer on the left-side than those we have brought to Charlotte over the past couple years."
