Craven begins comeback at Lysol 200 test
WATKINS GLEN, N.Y. (June 17, 1998) Ricky Craven, owner of the No. 2 New Holland Chevrolet NASCAR Busch Series Grand National Division race team, has received his doctor's approval to begin his comeback to the NASCAR Winston Cup Series by driving in the NASCAR Busch Series Lysol 200 at Watkins Glen International on June 28.
To prepare for the race in the car that is usually driven in NASCAR Busch Series races by Ron Barfield, Craven will participate in a test session on Thursday on the 2.45-mile Watkins Glen road course.
Craven was diagnosed earlier this season with "post concussion syndrome," an injury resulting from several concussions dating back to the Interstate Batteries 500 at Texas Motor Speedway in April 1997. Craven was the driver of the No. 50 Budweiser Chevrolet for Hendrick Motorsports in the NASCAR Winston Cup Series.
Craven was cleared last week to race by his doctors, allowing him to schedule the test day at Watkins Glen. In addition to Craven's NASCAR Busch Series teams, the NASCAR Winston Cup Series teams of Mark Martin, Ricky Rudd and Jeff Burton are on hand at the facility, in addition to the NASCAR Busch Series teams of Mike McLaughlin, Matt Hutter and NASCAR Busch Series hopeful Kat Teasdale.
Testing at Watkins Glen is open to the public free of charge. The facility is open from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with public access through Gate 4 and seating in the Start / Finish Grandstand area only.
For additional information or to inquire about ticket sales please call Watkins Glen at (607) 535-2481
