Ragan to race this weekend: NASCAR has approved David Ragan to race at tracks of 1.5 miles or less. He will attempt to qualify for the Dickies 500 at Texas Motor Speedway this weekend.
Ragan was not allowed to race at Atlanta after approval for him to race by Roush Racing was denied by NASCAR. Ragan is tapped to take over the No. 6 Ford next season. If it makes the race it will be his third start in the Nextel Cup series. He will also run the truck race this weekend.
ISC buys controlling stake in Chicagoland Speedway: International Speedway Corporation announced earlier this week that it has purchased a complete stake in the race track at the cost of $69 million.
"Chicagoland is a uniquely attractive asset well-positioned in the nation's third largest media market," ISC President Lesa France Kennedy said. "The region boasts a strong motorsports fan base, demonstrated by six consecutive years of season ticket sell-outs at the facility since opening in 2001. Our active representation on Raceway Associates' management committee and extensive knowledge of the business will help ensure a seamless integration into ISC."
"During the past six years, it has been a great privilege to have worked with both International Speedway Corporation and Indianapolis Motor Speedway, leaders in the motorsports industry," said Matt Alexander, vice president and general manager of Chicagoland Speedway.
"As we move forward, we are very excited about working more closely with ISC to continue to grow motorsports in and around the Chicagoland area. We feel that this transaction provides us with a great opportunity to utilize all of the valuable resources ISC has to offer in an effort to exceed our fans expectations on a regular basis."
Gordon penalized by NASCAR: Robby Gordon was docked 50 driver points and 50 car owner points, and fined $15,000 for throwing a piece of roll bar padding onto the track during Sunday's race at Atlanta.
Gordon was suspected of throwing the padding on the track after the race on Sunday but NASCAR representatives said Sunday night in Atlanta that the video was inconclusive. After a two-day investigation, NASCAR ruled against Gordon who denied throwing the debris out the window to cause a caution.
"We strongly believe the penalty imposed on the team, crew chief and driver, Robby Gordon, are excessive and fall well outside of any reasonable precedence set by NASCAR in dealing with many similar incidents in the past," Gordon's team said in a statement. "We do intend to appeal the severity of this penalty."
Montoya to run rest of season: Juan Pablo Montoya will race in the last three Busch races of the season at Texas Motor Speedway, Phoenix International Raceway and Homestead-Miami Speedway.
