Race recap: Jeff Gordon is the all-time winningest driver on road courses in NASCAR's top division. He extended his hold on that title on Sunday, winning his ninth career road course event, including his fifth at the Northern California circuit.

Gordon led twice on the day for a total of 44 laps around the 11-turn course. He took the lead for the final time from former teammate Terry Labonte on lap 88 of 110. He maintained his hold on the top spot through several late-race caution periods, including one at lap 106 with a 13-minute red flag delay for a six-car accident. Gordon wound up beating Ryan Newman to the checkered flag by 1.250 seconds after a final, three-lap shootout. It was his first victory of the season and the 74th of his 453-race Nextel Cup career. There were seven cautions overall for 12 laps and nine lead changes among eight drivers. Gordon averaged 73.953 mph.

Jimmie Johnson extended his championship lead over Matt Kenseth to 101 points after 16 of 36 events, followed by Kasey Kahne, Mark Martin and Dale Earnhardt Jr.

Goodyear Quote -- Phil Holmer, marketing manager, stock car racing: "Goodyear had a real good weekend on the track in Northern California. All the race strategy came down to fuel mileage, mainly because our tires showed great consistency and minimal wear. This was the Nextel Cup Series teams' first chance to race on our new road course tire set-up, and our Eagles came through with flying colors."

Other NASCAR races at the Milwaukee Mile in West Allis, Wisc:

The Busch Series on Saturday saw Paul Menard take the AT&T 250 win, with polesitter Denny Hamlin finishing second, 0.523 seconds behind after a late-race, seven-car accident forced an overtime two-lap green/white/checkered flag finish. Menard led three times for 85 laps, including from lap 205 to the finish. Rounding out the top-five finishers were J.J. Yeley, Jason Leffler and Mike Wallace. There were 11 cautions for 58 laps and 14 lead changes among seven drivers. Kevin Harvick, who finished 19th, remains the series points leader, 344 ahead of Hamlin.

In Craftsman Truck Series action on Friday night, Johnny Benson chalked up back-to-back series wins in his Toyota Tundra. He got past polestarter Ron Hornaday Jr. with 41 laps remaining and kept his lead through a restart with 25 laps to go. Mike Bliss slipped by Hornaday on the final restart to take second, followed at the finish by Hornaday, Jack Sprague and David Reutimann. There were nine cautions for 37 laps.
