Harvick Has Several Objectives As He Heads To Michigan For The Second Time This Season

HARVICK ON MICHIGAN: "Michigan is pretty similar to California. They look the same, but they drive completely different. You have a lot of the same characteristics from the racecar in terms of setup so you can carry that over. But as far as driving it, they're two different racetracks. But we've run really well on both, so we're looking forward to going back to Michigan, to say the least."

"The straightaway at Michigan is curved so you drive around the top of it. There's a real late apex going into turn one, you drive off in there and roll out of the gas. You barely graze the brake, let it roll a little ways and roll back into it halfway through the corner and down the back straightaway. The same thing going into turn three. Just roll out, barely touch the brake and right back in it. The car tends to get really tight up off of four. You tend to run out of racetrack so you have to be conscience of it every lap."

LAST TIME AT MICHIGAN: "We had a chance to win the Winston Cup race at Michigan last time if the circumstances would have worked out. We got caught in the pits running third and the yellow came out. We had a car that was fast enough to win the race and that should help us this time. We'll have a good place to start from and we'll adjust from there. Sometimes you don't get better when you go to a track for the second time, but a lot of times you do."

BUSCH RACE AT MICHIGAN "We are looking forward to getting another shot at going for the win at Michigan in Busch. We had a good car there last year, but not everything came together the way we needed. There are a lot of guys in the field who run well there. Greg Biffle has won there in Trucks, he should be good. Jason Keller, Jeff Green and several others should be tough. We're just going to start with what we think is going to work from the first practice."

Winston Cup Series

* Harvick jumped to seventh in points following his seventh place finish at Watkins Glen last weekend in just his second Winston Cup road course start.

* Harvick is just 89 points behind fourth place Sterling Marlin with one less start than 27 other competitors. * "Watkins Glen was a good points race for us," Harvick said. "We're concerned about points, but at the same time we're not. If we keep approaching every racetrack the same way every time, the points will take care of themselves. We're right on track to finishing in the top 10 in points which has been a goal of ours from the very beginning."

Busch Series

* Harvick leads the Busch points standings by 163 over second place Greg Biffle.

* Harvick won his last Busch Series start at IRP on August 4th, to record his fourth win of the year which is best in the series. Biffle finished second and led the most laps so there was no change in the gap between the two drivers.

* Harvick has led the points after 16 of the 22 Busch races so far this season. He has never fallen lower than third in the standings.

* Harvick has led the points after the last eight consecutive races. * "It's great to be leading," Harvick said. "But there are a lot of races to go and we're not changing our game plan at all. We're going out and trying to win every race we compete in. If we can't win, then we'll get the best possible finish out of it that we can for the points. That's the approach that has gotten us this far and we're not going to change it."

MILEAGE METER

Kevin Harvick will be logging more laps and miles, by far, than any other NASCAR driver this season. No driver in the modern era of NASCAR has attempted to run both full time Winston Cup and Busch Series schedules. All told, Harvick will have competed in 70 races this season, 36 Winston Cup, 33 Busch and one NASCAR Truck race. <pre> Here is Harvick's total miles run to date.
