MIAMI (November 3, 2000) -- Homestead-Miami Speedway will pay special tribute to the men and women of the United States Armed Forces during the Nov. 10-12 Pennzoil 400 weekend.
The U.S. Marine Corps, Air Force and Navy will each play significant roles during both of the Veterans Day Weekend races, Saturday's Miami 300 NASCAR Busch Series finale, and Sunday's Pennzoil 400 presented by Discount Auto Parts NASCAR Winston Cup event.
"The NASCAR family has an outstanding tradition of supporting the dedicated efforts of the men and women of the U.S. Armed Forces," said Curtis Gray, President of Homestead-Miami Speedway. "We will celebrate the Veterans Day weekend by recognizing the many sacrifices and contributions of our military personnel."
The Marines will celebrate their 225th birthday on Friday, Nov. 10, by unveiling a special red, white and blue paint scheme for the Team Marines Chevrolet to be driven by Hank Parker Jr. in the Miami 300. Former Marines in the NASCAR community will be invited to join Major General Gary Parks for the cutting of a 225th birthday cake.
The Marine Corps Color Guard will preside over opening ceremonies for Saturday's Miami 300, which will include a fly-over by U.S. Navy P-3 Orions, and a Marine parachute team will present NASCAR with the green flag for the race.
Sunday's Pennzoil 400 pre-race festivities will include the Homestead Air Reserve Base Color Guard, the U.S. Air Force Stars parachute team, and a fly-over with F-16s from the Homestead Air Reserve Base.
Staff Sgt. Mitchell Martin, a Marine based in Norfolk, Va., will play the National Anthem on a trumpet. Sgt. Martin is an instructor at the Armed Forces School of Music.

Parents have an excellent opportunity to share America's most exciting sport with their children on Friday's school holiday. Unreserved grandstand seats for Lennox Pole Day practice and qualifying cost $10, with children 12 and under admitted free.
