"Edwards prepares for upcoming races in both Sonoma and Milwaukee"
CONCORD, N.C. (June 20, 2006) - For the last two weeks NASCAR driver Carl Edwards has spent as much time in the air as on the track. This weekend offers more of the same - splitting time between Sonoma and Milwaukee. Edwards is one of six drivers competing full-time in both the Nextel Cup and Busch Series. Edwards manages a schedule that allows him to practice and qualify his Office Depot Ford Fusion in the Cup Series before leaving for the Busch race, which for the last two weeks has raced in a completely different state.
Edwards' last two weeks have been up and down, both in the air and on the track. In his first non-companion weekend Edwards won the Busch race in Nashville. and finished 25th at Pocono Raceway. This past weekend, Edwards finished 36th at Kentucky Speedway, after transmission problems caused him to run 26 laps down, before scoring his best finish of 2006 at Michigan International Speedway on Sunday, where he placed second.
The Sonoma/Milwaukee weekend will bring extra travel and a few missed practices. The weekend for Edwards begins in Sonoma for the first practice and Nextel Cup qualifying on Friday afternoon. On Saturday morning, Edwards will participate in both Nextel Cup practices before boarding a jet for Milwaukee where he will qualify his Ameriquest Ford Fusion. Saturday night's Busch race is scheduled to begin at 8:05 p.m. CDT. After the race, Edwards will once again board the jet and fly back to Sonoma.
"This weekend is one of the toughest split weekends we run, if not the toughest," said Edwards. "It takes a lot of planning, a lot of rest beforehand and two solid teams. I am really glad I was able to test my Busch car at Sonoma a couple weeks ago with Boris Said. It gives me a little extra confidence heading into this weekend. It will be a long weekend, but I love racing, so it doesn't make it too long for me."
