BUSCH: Rain shuts down Thursday in Darlington

Inclement weather has canceled all on track action at Darlington Raceway. Canceled activities include both practice sessions for NASCAR's Nextel Cup and Busch Series.

NASCAR will attempt to get in qualifying for both series tomorrow. The officials have added an 80-minute practice session in the morning for the both series. Qualifying for the Busch teams is schedule to start at 3:30 pm (EDT). Cup drivers have a 5:10 pm start for their qualifying on Friday evening.

Also on tap tomorrow night is the first race under the lights at Darlington. The Diamond Hill Plywood 200 race at 8:00 pm for the Busch teams. Nextel Cup drivers will take the green flag on Saturday night.

"It's gonna be fun, I think," commented RYR's Dale Jarrett about racing at night on the track that is called 'The Lady in Black' as the 1.366-mile oval speedway has been tough to tame. "I tested the Busch car there last week and I was a little surprised. It's the first track that I've seen that actually had a shadow from the wall and the lights. There was about a three to four foot shadow coming off the wall, but everywhere else that we race we don't race against the wall like that. Maybe it's up there and we just haven't noticed it, but there is a definite shadow.

"Matt Kenseth and I were talking on Sunday at Talladega before the race and I think we agreed that it didn't bother us as much in one and two as what it did in three and four," continued the driver of the UPS Ford Taurus. "That could become a little bit of a trouble spot because you're relying so much on what you can see right there in trying to get around the corner, but it's still pretty cool. To be there at night, I think it's gonna be a great show for the fans."

The weather, however, does not look much better for Friday, with door-to-door rain expected from sun up to sundown tomorrow.
