"Racing at Charlotte is always a lot of fun for drivers and teams because its home and we get to be in our own homes and the guys especially get to have their family with them for a change. This should be an exciting weekend with the race running at night, especially for the fans. Everything just seems faster and more exciting under the lights and it will be fun with the race being a Saturday night race. Charlotte's been a good track for this team and we hope it's the place where we can get our year turned around."
Dale Jarrett on Racing at Charlotte
UAW-GM 500 Will Be Saturday Night Shootout . . . Lowe's Motor Speedway is considered "home" for many teams and drivers in the NASCAR Winston Cup Series. Coming back to the 1.5-mile quad-oval is a welcome site for Dale Jarrett and the UPS Racing Team. Jarrett finished ninth at LMS during the Coca-Cola 600 in May, and may have been able to finish higher if the race had not ended due to weather.
"Charlotte has been a good track for me and this team in the past," Jarrett said. "We tested there about a month ago and we mostly worked on qualifying. We did learn some things at Kansas during the test and race weekend that I think will help us this weekend too. Charlotte is a tricky place. It's fast and it changes a lot. We need a car that will turn well through the center of the turn and I feel like we have that from what we saw the car do at the test in Kansas."
Darlington Car Ready for UAW-GM 500 at LMS . . . The UPS Racing Team will field the same car it used at Darlington in August for this weekend's race at Lowe's Motor Speedway. Shawn Parker's first race as crew chief for the UPS Racing Team was at LMS in May for The Winston and Coca-Cola 600. The team's race at LMS in May has Parker preparing for the upcoming race weekend with high expectations.
"We tested the Darlington car at Kansas when we were there two weeks ago to make sure the aero balance was back with it after we rebuilt it and it seems like it's just as good or better," Parker explained. "We need a car that turns well at Charlotte which is why we decided to take that car there. We tested at Charlotte about a month ago so we have a pretty good baseline idea of what we need to start out with on Thursday."
"We did have a good run at Charlotte in May and our stuff has changed so much since then," Parker added. "I feel like I have better communication with DJ as far as determining what it is he wants out of the car. I was more conservative then with changes made during the race. Now I have a pretty good idea of what he wants and looks for in a car so I am more confident with the changes I make during the race."
UPS Recognizes Circle of Honor Drivers . . . Each year UPS recognizes the driving record of drivers who have been on the road for UPS for 25 years and have not had a single accident. The Circle of Honor program is the award bestowed upon these drivers. The annual ad honoring these drivers appears in USA Today this week. More than 3,300 UPS drivers are now part of the Circle of Honor program.
