Jeff Burton Extends Lead in NASCAR Nextel Chase for the Cup
Concord, NC - Team Chevy Chase for the Nextel Cup contenders Jimmie Johnson, No. 48 Lowe's Monte Carlo SS, Jeff Burton, No. 31 Cingular Wireless Monte Carlo SS and Dale Earnhardt, Jr., No. 8 Budweiser Monte Carlo SS finished second through fourth respectively tonight in the Bank of America 500.

Burton's Richard Childress Racing teammate, Kevin Harvick, No. 29 GM Goodwrench Monte Carlo SS sits third in the standings , 89 points back, after salvaging an 18th place finish following broken gears in his transmission and a pit road speeding violation.
"I stalled the car leaving the pits, and had to go get our lap back," said Burton. "That was all I had. The car was really good fortunately to get it back. We fought back and recovered really nice tonight. We had a car that could lead the No. 9 and the No. 48, there was no question about that. We just didn't have the track position because I messed up in the pits, but we will fix that and try not to let that happen again. Nevertheless, we came back with a good finish. I am real proud of my guys for not getting their heads down, they stuck with me and we pulled through it."
