Blown engine puts Spencer out of race early in Charlotte; No. 41 Fujifilm car out of race early,

CONCORD, N.C. (October 14, 2002) - The No. 41 Fujifilm Dodge Intrepid R/T driven by Jimmy Spencer suffered a blown engine in the UAW-GM Quality 500 at Lowe's Motor Speedway.

The recognizable green, white and red of Fuji Photo Film U.S.A., Inc., was the featured artwork on the No. 41 Dodge driven by Spencer for this one event. The UAW-GM Quality 500 marked the first time that Fujifilm has had primary sponsorship on a NASCAR Winston Cup car.

Qualifying for the UAW-GM Quality 500 was cancelled Friday due to rain and the field was set according to owner's points, putting Spencer in the 23rd starting spot.

At the start of the rain-delayed race on Sunday, the Fujifilm Dodge was racing in the top-30. During the first pit stop of the day, Spencer left the pits with only three of the five lug nuts on the left rear tire. The Fujifilm team had to pit again for left side tires, losing one lap in the process.

After going a lap down, Spencer continued to race in the top-25 until the engine blew on lap 271. Team Target was out of the race early and had to settle for a 32nd place finish in the UAW-GM Quality 500. Spencer drops to 27th in driver standings.

Spencer's Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates teammate, Jamie McMurray, won the UAW-GM Quality 500. McMurray, in only his second NASCAR Winston Cup start, blistered the competition in the No. 40 Coors Light Dodge as he held off Bobby Labonte in the closing laps to score the victory. McMurray is currently subbing for the injured Sterling Marlin and will drive the Havoline Dodge for Ganassi in 2003. Next on the schedule for the No. 41 Target team is the Martinsville 500 at Martinsville Speedway.
