Kvapil to Go 500 Miles - Plus 3 - on Race Day 'Super Dad' Day Includes Charity Run, Soccer and Football

Statesville, N.C. (October 13, 2010) - By the time Travis Kvapil straps into the No. 34 Long John Silver's Ford for the Bank of America 500 Saturday night, he will have already finished a 5K run, two soccer games and a flag-football game. With the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series racing at its home track of Charlotte (N.C.) Motor Speedway, it means a weekend at home for Kvapil - and a rare weekend to participate in family and charity events.

The Janesville, Wisc., native, who now lives in Mooresville, N.C., with his wife and three kids, has a full day of activity scheduled for Saturday before he even puts on his yellow-and-blue firesuit to turn 334 laps.

He'll start the day at 7:45 a.m. in Cornelius, where he, wife Jennifer and 14-year-old daughter Kelsey will take the "green flag" on the Lung Strong 5K for the LUNGevity Foundation. The Kvapils are running for Team Basil, in memory of Kelsey's former soccer coach, Dr. Basil Mathew, who lost a battle with lung cancer two years ago. They will also dedicate their run to a family friend in Wisconsin who was just diagnosed with the disease.

After the family runs the 5K (approximately 3.1 miles), the driver dad will squeeze three more sporting events into his schedule before the 7:30 p.m. NASCAR race, starting with Kelsey's soccer game at 10:30 a.m. Seven-year-old son Carson has a soccer game at noon and a flag-football game at 1 p.m. With the soccer games always scheduled on weekends, Saturday will be the only time this year Kvapil will see his kids play.

"It's going to be a marathon day, but I'm excited for it," said Kvapil. "I love racing cars, but obviously all the travel makes you miss out on a lot of family stuff. We're going to squeeze in as much as we can in one day and the make the most of the weekend at home.

"With the 5K in the morning and the race at night, looks like I'm going to log about 503 miles on Saturday. I might need to sneak a nap in the hauler. But it's all for a great cause and it will be a special day spending it all with my family."
