DESPITE RECENT RECORD, RIGGS STILL UPBEAT ABOUT TEAM'S EFFORT

JOLIET, Ill. (July 5, 2005)--After a frustrating weekend at Daytona International Speedway, Scott Riggs is still holding his head high as the team closes in on the halfway mark of the Nextel Cup season.

"I'm still upbeat," said the Valvoline Chevrolet driver. "We've had some frustrating weekends this year, but I still head to each race knowing that we'll be competitive. If you look at our starting spots and our runs, we've been a factor most races. We just haven't put the most important part together, which is finding the finishes."

Riggs started on the outside pole in Saturday night's Pepsi 400, but posted at1st-place result after he was collected in a 10-car accident early in the event.

"It seems like blown engines, tire problems, wrecks--all these different things have kept us from following up our good starts with good finishes," he said. "But at the same time, if you're competitive week in and week out and continue to have good qualifying efforts, eventually you'll be successful."

Despite the team's recent record, Riggs is still optimistic about the rest of the season, including the team's stop at Chicagoland Speedway for this weekend's USG Sheetrock 400.

"We had a good run at Chicago last year but, again, got caught up in someone else's mess," recalled Riggs. "I remember we started around 15th but drove into the top ten and stayed there all day before everyone wrecked around us."

"I'm confident we'll be competitive this week and the weeks that follow," he continued. "Don't get me wrong, I'm not happy with the way we've been finishing these races but I do think we've been a factor and that's important."

"Our time is coming. I still believe that. Whether it's this race or the next or the next, this team is going to turn the corner. As long as we keep our chins up and keep working hard, we'll end up where we know we deserve to be--Victory Lane."
