ROYALTY, A HOT BOAT, SMOKEY -- AND MAYBE -- A DAY AT THE RACES

That's Just Part of the Fun Planned for Circle Track Magazine's Racing Expo

DAYTONA BEACH, FL -- In addition to more trade exhibits than ever before, technical seminars from a host of racing greats, and a comprehensive new product display, spectators at Petersen's Circle Track Magazine Racing Expo will be treated to racing's biggest personalities including appearances by Richard Petty, Smokey Yunick, and the Race Against Drugs Hot Boat, plus drawings that will send several lucky fans home with tickets to SpeedWeek's feature races. The activities are all part of the festivities housed at the Ocean Center in Daytona Beach, FL, Feb. 11-13.

Royal-watchers will get their fill, as The King, Richard Petty, will be on hand to sign autographs on Wednesday, Feb. 11, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

A virtual "Racer's Resource" under one roof, the Circle Track Racing Expo will also host feature demonstrations of the Dynojet Chassis Dynamometer, the officially licensed dynamometer of NASCAR.

The boat, which raced with the American power Boat Association, now tours the country with representatives from Race Against Drugs, a drug education program for children and teens.

"Nearly everyone who races anything is involved in some way with our program," said Race Against Drugs deputy director Scott Steger. We work hand- in-hand with 22 motorsports sanctioning bodies to educate kids about the pitfalls of drug use. At the Expo, Steger will share drug prevention information and literature with kids and their parents.

Fans of Smokey Yunick will have the opportunity to speak with him during, "Prolong's View: Visit Smokey and Friends: A Q&A session with Smokey Yunick about his life in racing!" Wednesday, Feb. 11, from 12 noon - 2 p.m. Prolong will donate two framed, signed posters of Smokey with his '67 Chevelle; drawings will be held during the appearance.

Legends of Racing, a not-for-profit association created to preserve the history of motorsports racing will have three vintage race cars on hand including the '39's stock cars of both Curtis "Crawfish" Crider and Kurtis Kraft, as well as Lee Petty's Special from 1950. On hand for autograph's will by the 1953 Indianapolis Rookie-of-the-Year, Ernie McCoy, and Sam Packard, one of the few men living that was at the meeting with Bill France, that formed NASCAR.

Racing fans also have a chance to win a day at the races during the Circle Track Expo. Each day, a drawing will be held for two tickets. on Wednesday, Feb. 11, two tickets to the Gatorade 125's will be given away: on Thursday, Feb. 12, someone will walk away with two tickets to the NAPA 300; and on Friday, Feb. 13, one lucky winner will receive two tickets to the Daytona 500.
