Dallenbach in, Craven out at Hendrick's Wally Dallenbach finally has a full-time ride. The veteran driver, who has demonstrated talent on both oval superspeedways and road courses, was announced today as the new driver of Hendrick Motorsports' No. 50 Budweiser Chevrolet.
Hendrick Motorsports president John Hendrick confirmed that Ricky Craven has resigned from the No. 50 ride. Dallenbach ran well in three races as a substitute driver in the No. 50 this year while Craven was recovering from post-concussion syndrome and knee surgery. He turned in two top-10 finishes in three starts, including a season-best seventh place showing in the Pocono 500 in June.
Craven, who joined Hendrick at the beginning of the 1997 season, ran eight races in the No. 50 in 1998. In four starts since returning from his injuries, he earned two top-10 starting spots, including a Bud Pole at New Hampshire in his first race back. However, Craven has only one top-10 finish this year, and no finishes better than 17th since returning.
