Team UPS looks to repeat 2001 Victory

DARLINGTON, S.C., March 12, 2002 --- Darlington Raceway has long been described as being the track that's "too tough to tame." Despite the sinister moniker, Dale Jarrett and the #88 UPS Racing team have managed to do just that on three different occasions, and return to the 1.017-mile oval as defending winners of the "Dodge Dealers 400." Previous Darlington wins for the #88 team include the 1997 and 1998 spring races. Jarrett will attempt to score his fourth win when Winston Cup Series action gets underway with Bud Pole Qualifying Friday at 3:05 p.m.

Racing The Track Is Just As Important At Darlington
The oldest track on the NASCAR Winston Cup Series schedule, Darlington Raceway tends to require a little more finesse than some of the newer racing venues. Darlington can be a sight of frustration for drivers and teams trying to get a handle on the gritty track surface that feeds on the Goodyear tires. Many drivers often explain how it's just as important to race the track as it is the 43-car field.

"One of the key things at Darlington is tire management," Jarrett explains. "The guy with the best tires at the end is the one who's going to be able to hold off the competition and contend for the win. Darlington is a fairly unique track in its shape. Turns one and two are at the narrow end and then the track widens out between turns three and four. The cars carry a lot of speed into four and you use a lot of the track up going through there that the car is right up on the wall."

UPS Trackside Services Update
The UPS Trackside Services booth is in the process of finalizing plans for the remainder of the 2002 NASCAR Winston Cup Series season. A list of addresses for all tracks will be provided within the next week, and users of the service still need to utilize the green UPS Trackside Services label in order for packages to reach the booth located inside the Winston Cup garage. The green labels are provided at the Trackside counter, or may be obtained by contacting Trackside Services information line at (404) 664-4928. The address for this weekend's event is Darlington Raceway, 148 Aberdeen Dr., Florence, SC 29501.
