GREG BIFFLE -- No. 16 3M Ford Fusion
DO YOU HAVE ANY CONCERNS ABOUT FORD AND IT'S LONG-TERM STABILITY? ROUSH IS KIND OF CARRYING THE FLAG RIGHT NOW. "Yes and no. We're not worried about the stability of Ford, for sure. I get a little concerned when you have all your eggs in one basket and at Roush Fenway, we're kind of carrying the flag for Ford. With the opportunity kind of hanging out there, we're gonna take Yates under our wing -- which we've done -- and possibly the Wood Brothers. That puts all of the Ford teams under one umbrella. So then Ford's ability to have somebody come up with innovative things or ideas, sometimes in cases it would be better and in some cases it may not be better. When you send three people off to find a solution and you say what's the best way to do this? And they all come back with different answers, sometimes there's a conglomeration of the two that makes an even better solution than any one of the single three. Right now, we will have more engineers at our disposal, but we're all gonna be in the same camp. I don't know what I'm trying to say. We're gonna have all those people under one umbrella. We'll be able to control all of those people, but there won't ever be the opportunity for somebody outside maybe. It's all gonna come from us. We're still probably gonna have the same amount of people in engineers whether the teams were under one umbrella or not, but I don't think we're worried about anything."
SO YOU DON'T WORRY ABOUT THEIR LONG-TERM STABILITY WITH THE ECONOMY AND ALL? "Ford's gonna be racing -- period."
HOW IMPORTANT IS INTERACTION BETWEEN TEAMMATES OF MULTI-CAR TEAMS? "I don't think there's that much interaction anyway because we all have such different lives it seems like. What is more important than anything is the crews interacting and the crew chiefs interacting -- the engineers and people behind the scenes. That's another negative is if you guys are all different teams and you guys find something that helps you, the reluctance to give it to all these guys which you're racing against but still within your organization is sometimes -- you want to kind of hide that a little bit because you want to be the best. So there's some competitiveness and we're all built like that, but it's important that all of our teams communicate versus us communicating. We just communicate. I guess what I'm thinking about is if we had a meeting every week and we all sat down for a couple of hours, would we be a stronger organization or would our performance on the track change? I don't really think so. We already talk and have those groups interacting, so I don't think there's anything more to learn."
DO ALL THE TEAMS AT ROUSH HAVE DATA FROM THE OTHER TEAMS? "Absolutely. We have almost like a common database, so all of that information is there. You can just look it up and really as we're collecting it it's like that as well."
IS THE SHOOTOUT MORE VALUABLE THIS YEAR WITH THE NEW CAR? "Absolutely. We've all said in the past that it gives us a little bit of practice behind the wheel time compared to the other teams, but, more importantly now than ever before because we've never raced this car here. So we're all gonna have a practice session before the 150s start."
