DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (June 29, 2004) - Scott Riggs is looking forward to his second NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series race at Daytona International Speedway. The rookie driver will pilot the No. 10 Valvoline Chevrolet around the 2.5-mile oval in Saturday night's Pepsi 400, and is hopeful that the result will be different from his trip to February's Daytona 500.

During the season-opening event, a promising day turned dismal when an early incident with Derrike Cope damaged the Valvoline Chevrolet and sent Riggs to pit road for repairs. Shortly after returning to the track, Riggs was caught in a 12-car pile-up on the backstretch of the famous speedway.

"We're looking forward to returning to Daytona," said Riggs, whose February effort resulted in a 34th-place finish. "We had a really fast car at the beginning of the (Daytona) 500, but uncontrollable circumstances ended our day. I'm excited about getting back down to Daytona and seeing how we can qualify and if we can get the Valvoline Chevy running up front."

Riggs has proven he can qualify well at a superspeedway. At Talladega in April, he qualified 5th for the Aaron's 499, but had to settle for a 34th-place finish after he was collected in an 11-car melee.

"Daytona is really a place of survival," explained Riggs. "The most important thing is having a good set-up for the car -- being able to draft well and work your way to the front. But almost as important is the ability to stay out of trouble. It doesn't matter how good a car you have, if there is a 10-car wreck right in front of you, it's hard to avoid being caught up in it at a superspeedway. That's why being able to run up front is so important there."
