PONTIAC NOTES (From Brian Hoagland)

PONTIAC DEBUTS NEW GRAND PRIX: Pontiac will debut a new Grand Prix race car during Daytona's Speedweeks. It's the first body change for the Grand Prix since the 1988 season. With a revamped car that season, Pontiac drivers charged to eight victories. Rusty Wallace scored six wins and the late Neil Bonnett contributed two. Since its first victory in NASCAR Winston Cup competition in 1983, the Grand Prix has won 47 races. Besides obvious aerodynamic improvements, the new Pontiac is 4.5 inches longer than last year's model. Last year's car was also an inch wider. "The problems with the old car on the race track were ones of downforce and balance in the rear," Pontiac chief engineer Byron Warner said. "It had pretty good aero (aerodynamic package), but we were always light on downforce in the rear. With the windshield angles and rearview angles on the new car, the car is much better on balance. I think our aero was equivalent in downforce, and much better in balance than the old car."

GRAND PRIX HONOR ROLL: Six drivers have won NASCAR Winston Cup races in a Pontiac Grand Prix. The list and total number of victories in a Pontiac Grand Prix:

Rusty Wallace (31) Neil Bonnett (2)
Kyle Petty (6) Tim Richmond (2)
Richard Petty (5) Ward Burton (1)
