Countdown to the 2010 Budweiser Shootout at Daytona -- Day Two

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (February 2, 2010) ----- Experience speaks volumes and never is it louder than in the competitive world of NASCAR Sprint Cup Series competition. It takes experience to make it to the most competitive form of auto racing in the world. Nothing reflects the rewards of experience more than winning. As such, the starting field for the Budweiser Shootout is ripe with experience.

Only one driver participating in the 2010 Budweiser Shootout at Daytona will be doing so for the first time. Juan Pablo Montoya is the lone Bud Shootout "rookie." While he is considered a rookie in the race, no one should be fooled by his lack of experience in the annual season-opening race. Montoya finished the 2009 NASCAR season eighth in the championship point standings and his No. 42 Target Team knocked on the door to victory lane several times throughout the 2009 campaign. A victory in Saturday night's dash for cash would be the perfect way to kick off the 2010 season for Montoya and his team.

"This will be our first Bud Shootout and it's a big deal for our Target team to be a part of this," Montoya said. "It's the first time teams get the opportunity to hit the track under race conditions and battle it out for money not points. It's unpredictable and exciting and a great way to kick off the 2010 season."

Montoya's crew chief, Brian Patti, is also going into the Budweiser Shootout with rookie status. While it is the duo's first race in the Budweiser Shootout, the Patti-lead team is looking forward to the opportunity to participate in the first official race of the 2010 NASCAR season.

"There's some added pressure going into 2010 having this be our first Bud Shootout and our first on-track 'race' of the season," Pattie says. "The Target team is looking forward to it. The entire crew worked hard last season and is proud to be a part of such an elite group of teams in the Bud Shootout."

By the Numbers ...

1 - The number of first-time participants in the Budweiser Shootout. Juan Pablo Montoya will make his first start in the annual event.

5 - There have been five drivers to win the Budweiser Shootout in their first attempt. Drivers pulling off the feat are Buddy Baker during the inaugural Budweiser Shootout in 1979, Dale Earnhardt in 1980, Jeff Gordon in 1994, Dale Jarrett in 1996 and Denny Hamlin in 2006.

9 - The first Budweiser Shootout at Daytona took place on February 11, 1979. A total of 9 drivers participated in the inaugural race in which Buddy Baker scored the win.

15:26 - The first Budweiser Shootout at Daytona was a 20-lap dash and it lasted 15 minutes and 26 seconds.
