STERLING MARLIN (No. 40 Coors Light Dodge Intrepid R/T)

NOTE: Marlin posted the third fastest lap in Thursday night's practice session at 183.475 mph.

"The guys really worked hard. They're fired up, and we want to win this thing. We go out ninth tomorrow, but it won't make any difference. It's just going to be a little slower. I'm not sure what it'll take to win the pole. Those two cars in front of us (in practice) got in a draft, so that's worth half a second or more. I think we've got as good a shot as anybody. We've still got a little bit left, so we'll see what happens tomorrow. This is the same car we had here in February, and it was pretty stout then. Hopefully, it will be again."

WARD BURTON (No. 22 Caterpillar Dodge Intrepid R/T)

NOTE: Burton, who led the most laps in the 2001 Daytona 500, posted the fourth fastest lap in Thursday night's practice session at 182.882 mph.

"All three of our laps were pretty clean. They weren't perfect. We didn't have people really close to us, but there were people I could see. All three laps were similar, and the times were pretty consistent. I think we've got a shot at it tomorrow. It'll be interesting. I've never really had a shot at a pole in a restrictor-plate race. I might have a shot at it tomorrow. I wish we could go out early. We had a good draw (late) for tonight, but that won't be good for tomorrow. This is the same car we had here in February. I'll have to wait and tell you after practice tomorrow night if we're going to be as good in the race as we were in the 500 in February."

DAVE BLANEY (No. 93 Amoco Ultimate Dodge Intrepid R/T)

NOTE: Blaney posted the 10th fastest lap in Thursday night's practice at 181.987 mph.

"We're all right. We struggled on our first run because we were dragging so bad, and I don't really know why we were. We came off of it too far, too conservative, and then we got back close to where we need to be. We're hitting the ground in one spot real hard. If we can get that out of it, we might pick up a bunch more. Somebody will always jump up there and surprise you in qualifying, but being in the daytime, a 49 flat will probably be pretty close for the pole. We're first out, so at least we'll know right away how we're going to stack up."
