WARD BURTON
(No. 22 Caterpillar Dodge Intrepid R/T)
^ÓThe car feels great. We just can^Òt get any speed out of it. I think it^Òs
going to race super on Sunday. I don^Òt know why it won^Òt run any faster. It
really feels good. I^Òd rather for it to feel good and go fast on Sunday than
today. I think everybody realizes racing is not quite as important as we
think it is sometimes now. We get so engulfed in it. When we get around race
cars, everyone works hard. All these flags on the cars show a lot of
patriotism. I don^Òt know if they realize it yet or not, but I tell you what
they (terrorists) did. They awoke a sleeping giant.^Ô
DAVE BLANEY
(No. 93 Amoco Ultimate Dodge Intrepid R/T)
^ÓWe lost an ignition box on the second lap. I think we might have been a
little faster. We weren^Òt going to be in the top 10 or anything, but it would
have been better.^Ô
KYLE PETTY
(No. 45 Sprint Dodge Intrepid R/T)
^ÓWe have our meetings after practice. The 43 and 44 threw some things on
the table and Chris (crew chief Hussey) made some really good calls. I don^Òt
have a hard time getting around this place except in qualifying. When it
comes to qualifying, I^Òm terrible, so that was a good lap for us. When I won
a race here, I used a provisional to start. It^Òs never been a good qualifying
track, but it^Òs a good race track for us. The guys in the motor room have
been working really, really hard, and our engine is running good. I usually
mess us up qualifying, so this is all crew stuff. This has nothing to do with
Kyle.^Ô
JOHN ANDRETTI
(No. 43 Cheerios Dodge Intrepid R/T)
^ÓI just about lost the race car, so I^Òm glad the Cheerios Dodge is back
in one piece. We^Òll work on it for the race. We were a lot better than that
in practice, but I about spun out two or three times. I just tried to get a
decent lap in, and that^Òs about all I got.^Ô
STACY COMPTON
(No. 92 Kodiak Dodge Intrepid R/T)
^ÓWe^Òre not satisfied with that at all. We felt like we could have picked
up some in qualifying, but I about spun out getting in the corner on the
warmup lap. I got a little loose over there. It was a good lap. It gave us a
good starting spot. I like this track. I like Bristol and Dover. For some
reason I like concrete tracks. We were in the top 10 in practice this morning
and we felt like we could improve, but we didn^Òt. There^Òs a different mood in
the garage area this week. It^Òs back to business now. We just need to keep
improving every week. We^Òve been getting better, and we^Òre coming together as
a team. I think you^Òll start to see results soon. We^Òre qualifying better and
racing better. We^Òll just try to go out on Sunday now and finish a little
better.^Ô
BILL ELLIOTT
(No. 9 Dodge Dealers Dodge Intrepid R/T)
^ÓIt wasn^Òt a bad lap. Pretty uneventful. We lost a little from practice.
We^Òll keep working on it. We came with a different setup than we^Òve run here
in the past. It worked pretty decent. It doesn^Òt look like anybody is excited
today. I don^Òt know if it^Òs from what^Òs happened the past two weeks or if
everybody is so tired from the season. I rested some last week, but a lot of
the crew guys didn^Òt. They were too busy getting prepared for Loudon.^Ô
STERLING MARLIN
(No. 40 Coors Light Dodge Intrepid R/T)
^ÓWe just haven^Òt hit the right combination yet. I think we^Òll race good.
The car really turns good. We were a little loose early and we got it too
tight, then we got it too loose again. We gambled for qualifying. I thought
the first lap was pretty decent. Glover (crew chief Tony) was going to tell
me if it was a good lap. I went off into turn one for the second lap and
somebody came on the radio. It was like a TV broadcast was bleeding on or
something. I thought Glover was telling me to come in. I eased up a little
bit. I realized it wasn^Òt him, so I got back in the gas and the second lap
was about what we ran the first lap. I think if I could have run the second
lap like I needed to, we could have been faster.^Ô
BUCKSHOT JONES
(No. 44 Georgia Pacific Dodge Intrepid R/T)
^ÓWe haven^Òt been loose since we got here, and the track changed a little
bit. We got too loose getting into the corner. That^Òs better than we^Òve been
qualifying, so we^Òre still pretty happy. We had a really good car in
practice, and we wanted to show it in qualifying, but it was still a good
lap.^Ô
CASEY ATWOOD
(No. 19 Dodge Dealers Dodge Intrepid R/T)
^ÓWe were a lot better than we were here in qualifying last time. We^Òll
try to get ^Ñem on Sunday now. I really like Dover. This is where I won one of
my Busch races. You^Òve got to get what the car wants. We^Òve got to figure it
out. We^Òll figure it out tomorrow and get ^Ñem in the race Sunday.^Ô
JASON LEFFLER
(No. 01 Cingular Wireless Dodge Intrepid R/T)
^ÓThat wasn^Òt what we needed. It^Òs pretty disappointing. We finished 13th
here last time, and that^Òs been our best run of the season. I thought we
could improve on that, but we won^Òt get a chance to do that now.^Ô
